Screening is a strategy of examining asymptomatic populations for early diagnosis and reduction of morbidity and mortality, being essential for diseases such as chronic kidney disease (CKD). CKD, characterized by the progressive loss of kidney function, is associated with common risk factors in vulnerable populations, such as professional fishermen. This research aimed to identify indicators of CKD in these workers through the analysis of urea, creatinine, fasting blood glucose, and urinalysis, in a descriptive, quantitative, and cross-sectional study conducted during the 2023 fishing season with fishermen from the Z2 fishing colony in Cáceres – MT. Blood samples from 103 fishermen and urine samples from 83 were analyzed. The results indicated exposure to risk factors for CKD, such as diabetes mellitus, evidenced by high average glucose levels in both sexes, classified as pre-diabetes. Increased protein and crystals in the urine were also detected, possible signs of renal dysfunction. It is concluded that it is possible to identify indicators of chronic kidney disease (CKD) among artisanal professional fishermen, reaffirming their status as a population vulnerable to the disease.
